A break in freezing temperatures

Today it was freakishly warm, oh so warm that we could have not worn fleeces and water proof pants but where is the fun in that.

I drove us to the play park. A super straight forward drive, and an empty car park so no parking issues. After all that time spent practicing parallel parking am I ever going to do it for real? (No, never ever!)

Anyway, the park was fun. Nomi and Zoey were so happy, grateful and excited it was as if I’d driven them to IKEA. Though they did pull me up on the lack of car picnic. It’s going to be nice going places during the week.

The weather was so mild I told the girls that we’d have to go out in the afternoon so I could rake the back garden and fill up the leaf compost pen again. They opted to draw in their tree top house whilst a wake of turkey vultures circled overhead.

Assuming there’s some road kill to draw that many vultures together or perhaps they are just home for the holidays.

First snow

Okay, it wasn’t that much of a snow. More like a gentle frosting but it was enough to get the girls dressed and on their bikes for a cycle through the “snow” at 7:15am.

Cold but crisp and bright. A lovely morning to get out for a walk and by 8:30am we were home for toast and hot chocolate.

Then by late morning we were out again for leaf raking, ice investigations and fishing. It’s been a good Friday here.

Games!

It was a rainy rainy day here. We got out for puddle jumping and leaf collecting, but we were mainly housebound.

In the late afternoon we played some games. We’ve been playing snap and animal dominos for almost a year, and in the last few weeks the silliness and restlessness has almost faded away (well for the first game at least). If you’ve played games with small children you know what I’m talking about.

Snap with two box fresh two-year-olds was interesting. Supermarket Sweep level of excitement every time they played a card, and the world was over when they ran out of them.

Games of animal and regular dominos go smoother now. They like the clack of the regular dominos and counting the spots.

With Christmas approaching I’m looking for suggestions of what games would they enjoy now and/or grow into over the next year. Any ideas?

Back in the saddle

Our first full day home, and we are all tired and snappy. Nomi didn’t want a cardi she wants daddy. Zoey didn’t want to eat her dinner because I didn’t wash the curly straw for her water.

Little dudes, I get it and we still had some good times today. The observational drawing of dinosaurs this morning was awesome and we all drew great stegosaurs.

Then when the Solar City engineer turned up to run a diagnostic (so Star Trek) we dashed out side to watch and rake (I mean play in) the leaves. You are so excited about the snow (!?) we started collecting sticks for snowmen arms because who wants to be caught short in two three months from now.

But that really used up all your energy for the day. So grumpy. So snappy. Still so tired.

Let’s hope that after two full night’s of sleep has everyone in a better mode tomorrow.
