Into The Woods!

Friends, don’t fret daily posts will resume on January 1st. We’ve been gadding about: Target, Costco, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and a rare trip to the movies. Taking advantage of Alex being at home to do a few of the things but tomorrow, tomorrow we rest, sew and play with trains. It will be glorious.

Yesterday my mum and I went to see Into The Woods. It was really nice to do something on our own, sit in the dark at 9:30am and try not to belt out “It’s the last midnight…”.

We’d seen Into The Woods on stage in 1990/91 in London and loved it. It’s such a good take on fairy tales and the “happy ever after”. I’d also seen it on Broadway so we are familiar with it, and hopeful for the film version.

It’s all good, bar Johnny Depp as the wolf who was better on paper than in the film and they trimmed that section back because he was kinda weird. I still loved it as a whole: costumes, sets, actors (especially Captain Kirk), special effects, etc.

All good but in trimming it down for a film version they lost the exploration of the “happy ever after”. The whole point of the play is looking at what happens when you get your prince or princess, you get the baby or much longed for wealth. It was fudged around and the bookending song to the princes’ ‘Agony’ dropped. Boo!

But I still loved it because I could fill in the gaps, and it is a rich film. I think I might need to get the Broadway production on DVD for the full story.

Ahhhh I had hoped for a bit more from this movie, being one of my favorite shows as well (stage crew in high school, Broadway, etc). But I will eagerly await the DVD release!!!

I’m so happy you’re taking full advantage of having your mum there & doing lovely things together. Enjoy Hogmanay 🙂
