Not quite sure what they were up to

It’s cold. A lot of the trees in our neighborhood are bare, obviously our trees are not they are slowly dropping as to force me to rake almost daily, so it’s all starting to look bleak on our walks out.

I don’t remember previous Novembers being so bleak but then this is one of the first years in a while where I had time to observe the changes. Last year I was just raking leaves for the first time and this year I’m pausing to look at their shapes and colors. Identifying which trees, and if from our garden or further afield. These are very good things. But it’s still getting cold. I’m going to need waterproof pants this year.

Trying to keep warm in the house when my Puritan side keeps lowering the thermos. When you drop it to 17C/62F a green leaf appears congratulating you on being frugal. So it’s all jumpers, thick socks and star jumps. As long as we keep moving we are fine, and I know as winter progresses I’ll stop chasing the green leaf, and obviously when Alex is here he’s leaving it at a barmy 18 or 19C/66F.

Anyway, it was hot chocolate with afternoon cake to warm us up and this put Zoey and Nomi in a very good mood. A double hit of chocolate (and prunes) will do that to you.

As I put away laundry (good task for keeping the circulation going) and tried to talk my brother into come visiting us (via FT) the girls ran and played around me. It was drawn out imaginative play session with fancy drinks but other than that I don’t really know what they were doing. There were lanterns, perhaps a boat, and a birthday party – maybe.

It’s nice some days to be on the periphery.
